ECO Tourism KenyaESOK - Ecotourism Society of Kenya

Ecotourism Kenya is a civil society organization that was founded in 1996 to promote ecotourism and sustainable tourism practices in Kenya. Founded with enormous industry support, the society was charged with the responsibility of providing the required support for the development of ecotourism and sustainable tourism in the country.

Today, the society continues to pursue the vision of making Kenya’s tourism sustainable, in terms of concern for the environment and the welfare of local populations. As a membership organization, Ecotourism Kenya brings together individuals, community based organizations (CBOs) and corporate organizations in a forum where they can discuss the concept of ecotourism and use this knowledge to improve practices in their respective fields.

The Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) is Kenya's leading tourism trade association, representing the interests of over 250 of the leading and most experienced professional tour operators in Kenya.

 

KATO's Objectives are to:

  1. Uphold the good reputation of Kenya as a tourist destination by ensuring that Kenya Tour Operators maintain the highest standards of service and value;
  2. Give agents and individual clients alike the confidence of knowing that Kenya has mechanism designed to consider the possible redress of any wrongs which a client may have suffered;
  3. Recommend certain standards which the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife might consider in determining whether or not to grant or renew the licence of an operator;
  4. Provide a means for the Association's members to seek protection or redress in any dispute either with another member or a non-member of the Association;
  5. Endeavour to instil a spirit of unity and loyalty to each other amongst members of the Association.
