Letter from Silas:
I am Luyia by tribe, born in 1968, married
with three children and brought up in Busia District which is the western part
of Kenya.
Luyia's are the third largest tribes in Kenya I attended both primary and secondary
school in the Western Province of Kenya. In 1988 I joined Sigalagala Technical
Training Institute and in 1991 I joined teaching. I spent 4 years teaching
Kiswahili, Geography, History and Religious Studies in a primary school when I
decided I needed a change in career. My passion for wildlife and conservation,
flora and fauna has always been there and I decided to take a step closer to
achieving what I have always wanted to do!
I joined Kenya Utalii
College and pursued my
career in tour guiding after which I achieved my KPSGA bronze badge. This
enabled me to become a tour guide with Mara Intrepids Camp for 9 years. But my
passion for learning more about the different parks in Kenya was still
there and in December 2005 I joined Sunworld Safaris to fulfill it.
Besides having an interest in wildlife, my
hobbies are playing and watching soccer, riding and reading.
