 Vom 13. bis zum 27. September 2008 war ich mit einer relativ großen
Gruppe von 14 Fotografen, verteilt auf 6 Fahrzeuge, unterwegs in der
Masai-Mara. Fast täglich konnten wir Leoparden sichten. Löwen mit 2-3
Monate alten Jungen und Geparden mit 6-8 Wochen alten Jungen, die vor
unseren Augen gesäugt wurden, Schabrackenschakale mit Jungtieren,
Löffelhunde und Servale sind nur ein kleiner Ausschnitt des Erlebten.

 22.09.2008 - As it looked like the wildebeest had left the Maasai Mara Game Reserve we did not report anything last week. However, suddenly due to recent rain fall much to dismay of some clients, the animals turned around and are now back in large numbers around Sand River & Keekorok areas.

A fourth type of wild cat |
 In the first 02 weeks of September we came once again to Kenya. Having booked 02 reliable Sunworld Vehicles & most of all two knowledgeable and well experienced guides, we made our way to the famous Mara Game Reserve. It truly fulfilled all our dreams and exceeded our expectations. On every single day we were witnesses of the various types of big cats that exist in the wild, seeing them in their natural habit: hunting, playing, eating & sleeping.

A fairly recent law has been passed whereby Safari Guides are obliged to obtain a license as a “Safari Guide”. However, only a few guides seem to know about this requirement & have fulfilled the same so far. Currently all guides entering KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service run) parks must have this license in order to proceed with their safari / game drives in the various parks.

KWS postpones increment of Park entry fees for 2008 |

Due to the crisis Kenya experienced at the beginning of this year KWS has now decided to postpone the planned increment of park entrance fees until January 2009 in order to support the ailing tourism industry in its quest to attract visitors.

KWS Park Fees increase in 2008 |
|
With effect from 1st May 2008, Kenya Wildlife Services will be
increasing their park entrance fees to US$ 60.00 per person per night
for its premium parks Amboseli and Lake Nakuru and US$ 50 per person
per night for its wilderness parks Aberdare, Mt. Kenya, Tsavo East
& West National Parks.

 Meru National Park has been declared one of the most diverse and favorite National Parks in Kenya. With a new Management plan in store, KWS has also decided to add a combination of 09 Camps / Lodges to the achieve a maximum bed capacity of 540 beds. This may have a positive influence on the current expensive rates being charged at the existing lodges / camps in the park. However, if such an increase in bed nights is actually desirable remains to be seen.

Park entry fees in Tanzania |
|
Tanzania has unfortunately also decided to propose a number of various park fee increments. From 01st July 2008 a further concession fee of USD. 30 – USD. 50.00 per person per day will be charged depending on the various camp or lodge locations. Especially the Serengeti seems to suffer from “overpriced” entry fees of accommodation options. E.g. the famous Serena Kirawira Camp in the Western part of the Serengeti will be charging USD. 100.00 for just the park / concession fee per person per day. It may be decided to postpone this increment further until January 2009, however, the exact outcome is not yet decided. In addition all park fees can no longer be paid by cash but a card system has been introduced whereby park fees need to be pre-loaded in the main town of Arusha. This new regulation does not affect any tourist who is booking an all inclusive arrangement. However, the intrepid travelers who wish to drive themselves / visit the various parks with a rented vehicle, this rule does pose some sort of an inconvenience as the trip now needs to be planned in detail prior to departure.
