Safari for kids of the Nest Childrens Home Limuru
The 5th of January was a special day for the little childern of The Nest Childrens Home Limuru.Sunworld Safaris sponsored a day trip to the Crescent Island in Naivasha for them to welcome the new year. A total of 55 children and 8 caretakers took part in the trip which started at 0930hrs.Two luxury Rosa buses (provided by Executive Shuttle on complimentary basis) and 01 Landcruiser (Sunworld) were used to take the children to Lake Naivasha, through the rich farming area of Limuru. A brief stop at the Great Rift valley escarpment provided a good opportunity for the children to see for themselves what they have been hearing and reading about in school. They marveled at the beauty of their country which to time of the trip was unfamiliar to them. Irene Baumgartner, who runs the children’s home together with her staff left nothing to chance, they made sure the young ones were properly prepared and taken care of during the trip.

The children arrived at the Crescent Island at 1130hrs where they were briefed by their safari guide before proceeding with the hike. The walking Safari provided them with a good opportunity to get close to the animals and birds with simplified explanation on both Flora and fauna from the guide. After an 1 hr.30min walk on the wildlife infested island, the children were transferred to the nearby Lake Naivasha Country Club where they were treated to a three meal course. It was also a rare opportunity for them to mingle with tourists and share same facilities with them, they were pleasantly surprised.

The journey back to Nairobi started at 1500hrs with a brief stop for prayer at the famous church in Maai Mahiu built by the prisoners of war in 1942. Irene, the founder and manager children’s home expressed her gratitude on behalf of THE NEST to Gabriele Nowak, Director of Sunworld Safaris for organizing such a wonderful outing for the children.
