|St. Johns Primary School - Charity Trip|
The annual Charity Trip sponsored by Sunworld Safaris took place on the 25th .October 2013. A total of 50 pupils and 5 teachers participated in the trip to the Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha. The trip was specifically organized for class 8 pupils who are due to sit for their final exams on 11th November 2013. St. Johns Primary School, located in the middle of Korogocho Slum area in Nairobi caters for pupils mostly from very poor families, orphaned children and rehabilitated street children. The School has had remarkable academic success in the past, especially in 2013 where they achieved good grades and sent many pupils to join National School. This has also attracted pupils from the neighboring Dandora, Kariobangi slums and estates.
The pupils were picked in 3 Luxury Buses (sponsored by Executive Shuttles who always assist with our charity trips and transportation) early in the morning for a drive to the scenic Lake Naivasha through the lush farms of Limuru. The drive though the Tea & Coffee rich area provided first hand information to the pupils on what they have been learning. They also had a chance to see the Green houses commonly used for horticulture and the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint. Quite a number of them marveled at the beauty of their county which to time of the trip was unknown to them. The slums provide very harsh living conditions, poor sanitization, crime & simple housing.
Important to us as a company is that we show the children in our country the rich natural heritage that we have to offer. The importance to conserve wildlife and flora.
The Crescent Island provides a fantastic learning ground and a wonderful break away from the impoverished surroundings of their daily lives. It allowed the children to get up and close to the animals such as zebra, giraffe, various antelopes and birds. The guide, Mumo, gave them a deep insight of these varied animals and their natural habitat. After a 2.5 hour walk, the hungry were treated to a special lunch at the Lake Naivasha County Club ! It was truly one of the highlights of their trip with the students being able to feast on pasta, chicken, beef, rice, different deserts which was unique to the children.
The Management of Lake Naivasha Country Club was most welcoming to the children and gave them presents and words of encouragement as they prepare for their end year exams. All in all, it was another magical outing & tour !
Sunworld Safaris always takes great pleasure and pride in these trips and is especially grateful to Mr. Mir from Executive and Mr. Rahool Sood of Wilderness with the assistance of this trip !
