Letter from Justus Mutuku: I was born in 1980 in Makueni County in the eastern province of Kenya. I come from the famous tribe of the Kamba, well known for wood carving and honey gathering. I am married with one child. Growing up in Makueni County, going to school in the morning and taking care of the family's livestock was the order of the day. This gave me an opportunity to get close to nature and wildlife in my childhood. I liked being out in the bush, seeing wildlife that we took for granted. I meanwhile learnt that we need to conserve nature and look after our precious wildlife and resources.After my secondary school education, I joined a Camping Safari Company where I did several trips to most national parks and reserves in Kenya. My bird count and my knowledge of flora and fauna got a new impetus. I am an active member of the Kenya professional guides association at Silver level. I have worked with several photographers and film crews and participated as a naturalist guide in nature walks as well as cultural tourism. |
