Our Annual charity trip for St. Johns Primary in Korogocho took place on the 29th October 2010. A total of 57 pupils from St.John primary visited Lake Nakuru National Park for the first time. Many of these children are orphaned with only one parent or no parents at all and they are supported by the Comboni Missionaries. These children reside in Nairobi's Korogocho slum, known for violence, great amounts of garbage, disease and crime. The basics that we all take for granted such as running water, sewage and 3 meals a day are non-existent. Sunworld Safaris organizes Charity trips for class 8 Pupils or even younger children twice a year shortly before they do their final exams. It offers them a good opportunity to relax their minds and feel appreciated before doing the exams. The education trip also gives them a chance to learn more about the beauty of their country and most important about the wonderful world of wild animals that exists almost next door but is never open to them due to lack of funds.
With the help of other sponsors such as Executive Shuttle Services who helped with transportation in their large and comfortable buses as well as reduced rates for a fantastic lunch at Flamingo Hill Camp, we have truly managed to make this another unique and memorable trip for the children. After a day of game viewing, decent meals and drinks, the children were well motivated and had learnt a lot about the park and the importance of conservation of their natural heritage. |
