Tana River Primate National Reserve |
The Tana River National Primate Reserve was gazetted in 1976 to
protect the lower Tana riverine forests and two highly endangered
primates, the Mangabey and the Tana River Red Colobus. The reserve
consists mainly of patches of riparian forests extending for 16km long
the meandering course of the lower Tana River, 350km east of Nairobi
and 240km north of Mombasa.

Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park |
The park is located in Kwale district at the southern most tip of the
Kenyan coastline, near Shimoni and south of Wasani Island near the
Tanzanian border. It was gazetted in 1978, covering an area of 28sq km
and can be accessed via sea or road.

Kiunga Marine National Reserve |
A group of 50 calcareous offshore islands and coral reefs, the Kiunga
Marine National Reserve helps conserve the valuable coral reefs, sea
grass meadows and the mangrove forests. This biodiversity also acts as
a refugee for the almost extinct dugongs and sea turtles.

Malindi / Watamu Marine National Park |
It is convenient to treat both these parks as one unit as they are
incorporated in the same Marine National Reserve. Famous for their vast
stretches of casuarina fringed white sandy beaches, the coastal resorts
of Malindi and Watamu are also world leaders in the accessibility,
beauty and diversity of marine life which lives just off-shore on
Barracuda and North Reef coral reefs and Turtle and Whale Islands;
which is the nesting ground for roseate and bridled terns from June to
September when they should not be disturbed and are protected by razor
sharp rocks and rough sea.

Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve |
The park is 10km2 while the reserve is 200km2. Both the park and the
reserve are the most highly utilized among marine protected areas.
Their coastline is heavily developed with tourist facilities.
