Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park
The park is located in Kwale district at the southern most tip of the Kenyan coastline, near Shimoni and south of Wasani Island near the Tanzanian border. It was gazetted in 1978, covering an area of 28sq km and can be accessed via sea or road.
Kiunga Marine National Reserve
A group of 50 calcareous offshore islands and coral reefs, the Kiunga Marine National Reserve helps conserve the valuable coral reefs, sea grass meadows and the mangrove forests. This biodiversity also acts as a refugee for the almost extinct dugongs and sea turtles.
Malindi / Watamu Marine National Park
It is convenient to treat both these parks as one unit as they are incorporated in the same Marine National Reserve. Famous for their vast stretches of casuarina fringed white sandy beaches, the coastal resorts of Malindi and Watamu are also world leaders in the accessibility, beauty and diversity of marine life which lives just off-shore on Barracuda and North Reef coral reefs and Turtle and Whale Islands; which is the nesting ground for roseate and bridled terns from June to September when they should not be disturbed and are protected by razor sharp rocks and rough sea.
Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve
The park is 10km2 while the reserve is 200km2. Both the park and the reserve are the most highly utilized among marine protected areas. Their coastline is heavily developed with tourist facilities.
