Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Entebbe

Arrival can take place at any time of the day though we would recommend from noon onwards for guaranteed hotel check-in. Upon arrival, your private safari guide / vehicle will be waiting to pick you up and transfer you to your overnight hotel which will be about 10 minutes drive within Entebbe. Entebbe is one of Uganda’s main towns and a more of a residential area hence no much traffic is expected. All meals on this day will be payable direct. Overnight at THE BOMA GUEST HOUSE.

Meal Plan: All Meals Payable

Day 2

Excursion to Mabamba (Shoebill Tour) and thereafter depart for Kibale Rainforest National Park

After breakfast your safari driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to the Mabamba wetland on Lake Victoria. You will board a small boat the so-called Mokoro i.e. dugout boats to explore the narrow canals of the Papyrus marsh. You will come across many different species of birds whilst searching for the legendary bird, SHOEBILL named after its mighty beak, the bird is one of Uganda's landmarks. At about 1000 hrs depart to Kibale Rainforest National Park driving Southwest of Uganda to Fort Portal. Enjoy a packed/picnic lunch on the way as a long drive will be involved. Your driver guide will gladly provide you with information about the country and its people. Fort Portal is located in the "shadow of the Moon Mountains". This is the name of the impressive Ruwenzori Mountains. Arrive at your accommodation late afternoon. The day ends comfortably while you listen to the sounds of nature. A wonderful bird and butterfly world has found your home in the rainforest. Dinner and overnight at THE PRIMATE LODGE. (B, L & D)

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 3

Full day in Kibale Rainforest National Park

Breakfast at your lodge and thereafter transferred to the chimpanzee trekking base. After a brief orientation depart for the Chimpanzee trekking with your local ranger to see these amazing creatures closest to us. Like us, chimps are highly social animals, care for their offspring for years and can live to be over 50 years. Chimps usually travel on all fours, though they can walk on their legs like humans for as far as a mile. They use sticks to fish termites out of mounds and bunches of leaves to sop up drinking water. The probability of actually finding the primates is 95%. Sometimes they hide up in the trees and it's not easy to spot them. In addition to the chimpanzees, there are also other primates that are native in this forest such Colobus monkeys, red monkeys, diadem black-backed white-nosed meerkats and many other species. Over 300 species of birds and 140 species of butterflies make the forest an oasis for nature lovers. The chimpanzee trekking takes about 2 - 4 hours and you cover a distance of 3 - 5km back. Afternoon at leisure or take a guided walk in the Bigodi Swamp excellent for birders as well as other primates. All meals and overnight at THE PRIMATE LODGE.

Tip: Instead of the normal chimpanzee trekking, the habituation can also be booked for a surcharge. Here you have much more time in a smaller group. Take a hike through the Bigodi Swamps in the morning. Many different plant species, bird species and many more make the hike unique.

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 4

Drive to QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK (Northern sector)

In the morning proceed on to Queen Elizabeth National Park driving along the mighty Ruwenzori Mountains to arrive at your accommodation in time for lunch. Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 5

Full day in QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK (Northern sector)

A busy day awaits you today. In the morning you start chimpanzee trek in the Kyambura valley. The 16km long canyon forms a natural border with the Kyambura Wildlife Sanctuary to the east. It is especially a strong landscape in contrast to the open grass savanna. The gorge forms a closed habitat for the chimpanzees and the probability of seeing the animals is very high. After a 3-hour hike, a boat trip on the Kazinga Canal awaits you at 1600 hrs. In addition to the hippos and crocodiles in the water you can see much wildlife near the shore - a great opportunity to observe the animals from the boat up close and take pictures. With the sun setting, you will return and a last observation tour takes you back to your accommodation. All meals and overnight at MWEYA SAFARI LODGE.

Note: The chances of seeing the chimpanzees here are slightly lower than in Kibale Forest. But the hike through the gorge is unique.

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 6

Early morning game and breakfast. Thereafter depart for Ishasha area famous for its tree climbing lions that can sometimes be spotted resting in the branches of the large fig trees. Arrive at your camp set along a river in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive at your convenience. Dinner and overnight at ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP.

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 7

After morning wake up teas / coffees, check-out from your accommodation and depart for a morning game drive and with a bit of luck you may spot the tree climbing lions. Ishasha Wilderness organizes a fantastic bush-breakfast which is always a different experience in the wilderness. Thereafter proceed through the so-called "Switzerland of Africa" past the highlands of Kigezi's all the way to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is the home to half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Nine other primate species are found here too. The name Bwindi Impenetrable is as a result of the landscape i.e. the dense mountain rain forest that developed since the Ice Age and the shrub and bush vegetation provide an ideal habitat for the primates. You will arrive at your accommodation in the afternoon located at an altitude of 2300m. Enjoy the view of the rainforest and the rest of the day at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at ENGAGI LODGE.

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 8

After breakfast you will be transferred to the Gorilla trekking base which is a few minutes’ drive from the lodge. A briefing / Gorilla trek orientation will be provided to you and especially one need to pay attention to the guidelines provided. You will then proceed into the mountain rainforest with the ranger. The ranger follows the instructions and paths of the trackers who already left at sunrise. The trackers begin with spotting the overnight nest and from there follow their trails. As soon as they spot the gorillas your guide is informed accordingly. It is always a great and fulfilling moment when you are in the rainforest facing these "gentle jungle giants". The visit is only limited to 1 hour in order to minimize the disturbance of their natural rhythm of life. Then you head back to your accommodation. The path to the gorillas can be exhausting depending on the gorilla family being visited hence a certain fitness level is expected. It is also important that you are healthy. Even with colds / flu the access to the gorillas may be denied so that they are not endangered. A late lunch awaits you at your accommodation and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. All meals and overnight at ENGAGI LODGE.

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 9

After an early breakfast, you will head to Lake Mburo National Park. It is on the way to Kampala and is all too often overlooked by travelers, but offers beautiful scenery and numerous potential activities. It is Uganda's smallest national park. Bird lovers will also get their money's worth here. More than 250 different species such as the papyrus bush shrike, black-headed lapwing or the white winged warbler can be found in the National Park. In the afternoon you will go for an extended game drive. Buffalo, Elan antelope, Oribis or Topis and many other animals can be discovered. It is also the only national park next to Kidepo where you can also watch zebras in Uganda.

Dinner and overnight at MIHINGO LODGE.

Meal Plan: Full Board
